Analysis

Among German Google searchers, the share actively hunting for video game consoles surged 63% between calendar week 44 and week 47 of 2025 — far outpacing every other category tracked across the pre-Black Friday ramp, and more than double the equivalent lift seen in 2024 (+30%). Queries like "ps5 black friday" and "Nintendo Switch Black Friday Amazon" drove the spike, confirming that German consumers treat the November sales window as the primary moment to shop for gaming hardware.

Why consoles dominate the Black Friday search calendar

Console launches and limited supply have long conditioned shoppers to plan purchases around promotional windows rather than impulse-buy. The PS5 maintained strong demand heading into the 2025 season, while Nintendo Switch 2 pre-launch excitement — announced in early 2025 — kept Nintendo queries elevated throughout the autumn. Hot products for Black Friday 2025 were expected to include gaming consoles and video games, toys, mobile devices, and home tech, aligning precisely with what the search data captures for Germany. Home decor (driven by Advent calendar searches, +32%) and party & celebration goods (+44%) also climbed sharply, reflecting how the Black Friday ramp increasingly doubles as the opening of the German Christmas shopping season. Notably, electronics broadly — the category 77% of German shoppers said they were most interested in during the Black Friday sales period — saw only moderate search growth for TVs (+30%) and computers (+26%) compared to the console spike, suggesting that broad electronics intent is already "baked in" before KW44, while consoles represent a more concentrated, event-driven burst. For how this search enthusiasm translates (or fails to translate) into completed purchases in the electronics vertical, see Electronics checkout abandonment on Shopify stores.

Methodology

The analysis covers the pre-Black Friday ramp of the 2025 season (calendar weeks 44–47, 27 October – 23 November 2025) — the most recent complete four-week window available. Each week's figure represents the share of active German Google searchers who issued at least one commercial or transactional query classified into that product category. Growth is the ratio of that share in week 47 to week 44. The population is calibrated to reflect the German adult online population by age, gender, region, and income. Because the 2026 season had not yet started at the time of data collection, the 2025 season serves as the current-year reference.
