Analysis

Lieferando's dominance in Germany's delivery market is consistent across all age groups, but the data reveals a structural vulnerability: Wolt and Uber Eats collectively take a larger slice of younger buyers, pointing to a generational opening that rivals are actively exploiting.

Lieferando's nationwide reach vs. Wolt's urban premium play

Lieferando is Germany's largest delivery platform by some margin, with an estimated 5–8 million monthly active users versus Wolt's 1–2 million, concentrated in major cities. Wolt, now part of DoorDash, has positioned itself as a premium urban service; Uber Eats operates in an even smaller set of German cities. Their combined over-indexing among 18–34 year-olds likely reflects both urban density and the younger demographic's appetite for curated, design-led app experiences. The REWE Sofort-Lieferung partnership, launched 15 September 2026 across all three platforms simultaneously, may accelerate Wolt and Uber Eats adoption in grocery — a segment where Lieferando's existing REWE tie-up already had a head start since 2024.

Methodology

Platform buyer share is calculated as the proportion of unique buyer interactions attributed to each platform (Lieferando, Wolt, Uber Eats) within each age group, among all German online users who made at least one purchase on one of the three platforms between 1 August and 11 September 2026. Because a small share of buyers used more than one platform in this period, shares approximate reach-based platform penetration within each age band. Age groups follow standard demographic brackets. Orders span the full range of delivery categories available on each platform, predominantly restaurant meals.
