# Session Depth vs. Purchase Rate in Shopping Apps > Heavy Temu users are 6.5× more likely to buy than light users — 18.3% purchase rate in the top third vs. 2.8% in the bottom third **Period:** Sep–Oct 2026 **Market:** DE **Data status:** final **Data as of:** 2026-10-28T07:02:22.061276+00:00 **Sample size:** n = 4,838 **Source:** [https://www.generalevidence.com/en/insights/digital/apps-mobile/shopping-app-session-depth-purchase-rate-germany-2026](https://www.generalevidence.com/en/insights/digital/apps-mobile/shopping-app-session-depth-purchase-rate-germany-2026) ## Segments - **Years:** 2026 - **Platform:** android, purchases ## Summary Across four major German shopping apps, users who spend the most time per active day are far more likely to complete a purchase within an eight-week window than those with the shortest sessions. The ratio is most dramatic on Temu — **18.3%** of heavy users bought from the platform versus just **2.8%** of light users, a **6.5× gap** — but the pattern holds across all apps tracked in Germany in autumn 2026. ## Engagement depth as a purchase signal Vinted shows a similar dynamic: the top third by session length converted at **33.3%**, against **6.4%** in the bottom third — a 5.2× ratio consistent with how the resale format drives repeated, intent-laden browsing. Amazon's spread is narrower (54.4% vs. 33.3%), reflecting its role as a high-frequency utility app where even light users transact regularly. eBay sits in between, with a 3.4× gap (28.2% vs. 8.4%). The association between session depth and purchasing is real, but the direction is not settled: users who intend to buy likely linger longer, rather than longer sessions mechanically producing purchases. This distinction matters for marketers deciding whether to invest in in-app engagement features or simply reach more users. For context on how much time German Android users actually spend per active day in each of these apps — the input variable behind these purchase-rate differences — see [Shopping app time per day in Germany](slug:shopping-app-session-time-germany-android-2026). ## Chart Grouped bar chart showing 8-week purchase rates for the bottom third and top third of users by in-app minutes per active day, across four shopping apps among German Android users in September–October 2026. For Temu, bottom-third purchase rate is 2.8% and top-third is 18.3%; for Vinted, 6.4% vs. 33.3%; for eBay, 8.4% vs. 28.2%; for Amazon, 33.3% vs. 54.4%. ## Methodology German Android users who opened at least one of the four shopping apps — Amazon, eBay, Vinted, or Temu — between September 1 and October 26, 2026, are grouped into terciles by their median foreground minutes per active day for each app individually. Purchase events within the same window are identified via matched email receipts from confirmed order confirmations. Purchase rate is the share of users in each tercile who completed at least one purchase from that app's merchant during the period. Results are weighted to German adults aged 18 and over by age, gender, region, education, and income. Purchase rates based on email receipts reflect confirmed orders and may undercount platforms where order confirmations are less consistently sent to the inbox used for tracking. ## Citation General Evidence (2026-10-28). *Session Depth vs. Purchase Rate in Shopping Apps*.
